Common Mistakes to Avoid With Affiliate Marketing Programs

Affiliate marketing is a powerful tool for making money, but I hope you can learn from some of mistakes to avoid a few of the potential pitfalls. First, a product may be red hot, but is it the right product for you? You'll always find your greatest success comes from being passionate about a product. Your passion creates energy and drive, and these are the things that your potential customers will feel from you and your website. Either you have some spark - or you don't.

Problems crop up when the affiliate marketer joins too many programs at once (like I did! Ouch!). You might be thinking in terms of creating multiple sources of income, but the numbers in the success column just don't materialize. It is just too difficult to focus on a lot of different directions at once. Stick to one or two programs that pays no less than a 50% commission, and then give those prograsm your undivided attention. If you can't make those one program work, the chances of making multiple programs profitable are slim to none. When you do find success, then you can leverage that success into multiple programs.

Make it a point to find out how the merchant pays their affiliates (PayPal, check, etc.) and the timeframe in which you can expect payment. Also, find out how the merchant is going to charge the customer for the product. You don't want your referrals to be lost because customer payments don't properly correspond to your referral ID number. Unfortunately, merchants may not opt to disclose every bit of information.

Another common mistake that hopeful affiliates make is to not be familiar with their products. Generally, you won't be able communicate and sell your products successfully without first-hand knowledge. Find our if you have a winning product by trying it first! In fact, some affiliate programs offer their affiliates discounted rates for trying the product.

Be familiar with the merchant's customer service and return policy. If it isn't fair and explicitly stated, be careful about referring your valuable customers.

Finally, the most important thing to look for is the relationship between the merchant and its affiliate marketers. do you feel their support and honest desire for you to succeed? Do your questions get answered on time and in depth? Look for merchants who want a long term relationship with you!
